Posted on Wed, Feb. 01, 2006 Reggae for kidsPutumayo Kids has released a new collection of tunes for children and adults that reflects the crossover appeal and worldwide influence of reggae. The new CD, "Reggae Playground," presents renowned artists from reggae's birthplace: Jamaica. Featured artists in-clude Judy Mowatt, a soloist and former backing vocalist for Bob Marley; Rita Marley, who sings the classic anthem "Haram-be"; Toots and the Maytals, performing a reggae arrangement of "Take Me Home, Country Roads"; and Burning Souls' rendition of "Here Comes the Sun." Other artists from around the world who have adopted the reggae style also are featured. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the CD will be donated to the Jamaica Basic Schools Foundation, which raises money for early childhood education in Jamaica.
