Roots Rock Reggae Concert
Mesa, Arizona...
Gates opened at 3:00pm, temperatures were in the 109's+. Messenger, Feelthelove, Quyet, Steph, front and center awaiting the show. ;D
Looner- begins with groovy vocals and then move into light rock/rap, bringing a small group of their followers to the front of the stage, I really enjoyed their short set.
Slightly Stoopid is up next and apparently they are a bit better known in Arizona because as they began , our crowd grew to a much larger group. Slightly Stoopid is loud but fun, they work very well with their audience, they did a good set, good good set.
I see that both of those groups are young, and who better to tour with and learn from than old pros like Toots and The Marleys, looks to me like they are artist to look forward too!
Before I continue, I have to give Big Ups to the MC - Stone Love, he was really great, not a dull moment , he gave us lots of singing lessons and laughs, also Knowledge - we give thanks for the different words used by Rastas and there meanings... along with DJ - G-Fuss - him BAD - what a way to spin those records, especially with the beautiful woman blinding you with her hands and then sitting on you between you and the records, but the show wasn't stopped - he just kept spinning, scratching and feeling the heat! "Naughty Girl"
COMMON - Common is really good , dj, rap, lots of followers in Arizona - You guys showed much love for Common, Big Up Big Up!
Common decided he wanted a young lady to come on stage with him so that he could slow dance "WOAH" and serenade her, she melted in his arms, he sat her down and filled her with sweet sweet words from his lips - he is kinda cute!
It didn't stop there, Common allowed a freestyle session, I don't know if it were planned , but the young guy that came up from the audience was "good" Big Up to him, Common was shocked , he joined the guy rapping , they laughed and shooked hands, they young man introduced himself, and jumped down, Really Big Up to Common, for being the people person that he is, nice show! ;D
The "aromas" were very nice indeed!
Did someone say Toots! Where do I begin?
Toots and the Maytals.......
Toots just seems to be getting Younger and Younger!
His first song lets us know just that! And every one afterwards was full of fun and knowledge to the youth as he say.
He was not shy as he danced and showed his stuff throughout all of his songs, the whole time teaching us to sing along with him, I know people enjoy the songs better if they know the words, he made sure we did, and we sang and danced with Toots throughout his set, great show as always, keeping his audience lively! ;D
The Maytals - Wonderful!! They were all introduced at the end of the set, as all were due! Great show!
ROOTS ROCK REGGAE being screamed from Ziggy Marley as the Marley brothers enter the stage!
RASTAFARI
All looking very rested, Great Power - together!
You can see the strength in the brothers - as one!
One Love Bob Marley - be very proud Bob....
Ziggy sang Roots Rock Reggae while Ky-mani and Stephen and Damian played the drums. Then Damian comes with Love and Inity, sings , raps a little, dance as Julian joins in singing plus Ky-Mani, oh how well they work together, by that moment we were panting by the stage , everyone had pushed forward and started coming in from the sides to the middle - the Marleys were magnets.......
Ky-Mani steps forward with Heathen, I felt that they chose the right person to pass these messages to the audience, each song was presented through the right channels like Julian with Natty Dread and his songs Harder Dayz and Systems, Ziggy with Justice and his Melancholy Mood, Steve with Kaya and Punky. Good show indeed! ;D
Damian and Julian will always tear up the stage. They Did! ;D Love it! Love it! Love It! Just like Toots, I am so happy that they have Toots, I know Bob is too. Rita called him a Dear friend when introducing him at the One Love Concert, You could hear from her voice how special he is to her and was to Bob.
Ky-Mani sang , I believe to be one of his new songs called Slow Roll..... I'm reading this from the set list, so if the names are unknown to you , which some are to me, it is off of their set list. Slow Roll is a nice slow song - but! I won't explain the but!
The Flag Man in full Military suit, and why not?
I bet he never felt heat like that before!
But he certainly did his due! Big Up to the Flag Man!
Rastafari
I will always love to hear Damian and Stephen sing It Was Written, Yes Listen Youth and learn!
Stephen and Ky-Mani did Jammin, Ziggy with Is This Love
Julian and Damian dancing all over, everyone having a great time, and again , why not?
The band was awesome, Tracy - "HEAT" we understand - left the stage for a bit.... She and the other girl were great, thanks to both of them, Big Up Sistren!
Everyone left the stage and returned because of the loud and I mean I've never heard it louder anywhere else, pleas from the audience, to finish off the set with Could You Be Loved, together, and connecting with each other to form a line and give thanks and praises to us. WE LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!
There were not many vendors , but the few that were there had nice Rasta gear.
They could have re-thought the food, they were serving Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, I did enjoy the nachos, PETA was handing out some pamplets that would curb your appetite anyway.
Budweiser - NOW.
This is where our biggest downfall comes in!
You know I just bet, that if they offered their non-alcholic beverages at these events , it would probably go along pretty well, and then again I think that I saw an alcohol booth also.
Anyway someone threw a roll of tissue at Julian, and something hit Ziggy on the face, there were things thrown toward them, that is so not good!
A very large Hawaii native, young Lady, came and pushed her way in between us at the stage , very drunk, loud, swinging her arms everywhere!
This is what comes from misusing and abuseing alcohol, we need juice vendors, no one should drink alcohol in those temperatures anyway!
It also caused the meet and greet to be canceled!
But Me and Quyet did get to be close to Julian, Damian and Ky-Mani, I don't really remember if Stephen was back there. I was in awe! They stopped to sign autographs and allowed pictures to be taken, talked for a bit , they are very very nice people - Beautiful people! Quyet got pics!
All together it was a wonderful experience!
Oh By The Way!
There was a photographer taking Marley pictures, she was wearing these nice green Puma tennis shoes!
Puma - Jamaica- Sponsor - Olympics!
And on the back of her T-shirt, was the words.....
"All The Freaky People Make The Beauty Of The World"
