Ludacris for Sumfest Sumfest update! Ludacris for SumFest HIP-HOP GIANT Ludacris will be a featured act on Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest scheduled for next month. Ludacris, who is signed to the Def Jam label will grace the Sumfest stage on Friday July 23, the first International night. There will also be a performance from Lionel Richie the following night, which is also the second International night. Sumfest spokerperson Johnny Gourzong confirmed this with THE STAR yesterday, and said that Sumfest organizers were excited about the two coming here. Hottest acts "He (Ludacris) is one of the hottest Hip Hop acts right now, and he has been so for quite a few years," Gourzong explained. "His music is very popular and I am sure that he has a multitude of fans here in Jamaica...He is looking forward to performing and said he is delighted to perform on the show." Lionel Richie he added has had fans here for ages, and will feel just as welcome. Gourzong also stated that it is likely that they will have another big international artiste, but he could not say who it was just yet. Added to the attraction of the Hip Hop superstar, Gourzong said that there will be a few differences about the venue in comparison to previous years. "For this year, we will have an extended backstage area, a huge parking lot, so that this time some patrons can actually drive into the venue." Along these adjustments, he said that a huge eight foot wall was erected by the UDC to secure the perimeter of the venue. Nightly theme Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest is scheduled to run from Sunday July 18 to Saturday July 24. As is customary, throughout the week each day of the festival will have a different theme. The themes for this year are Beach Party day/night, Street Jam, Sound System Night, Foundation Concert, Main Event Night One and Main Event Night Two. Among the local acts billed to appear are Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Wayne Marshall, Vybz Cartel, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Ce Cile, Richie Spice, Gregory Isaacs, John Holt, Wailing Souls, TOK and Macka Diamond.

Sizzla meets Ludacris on Int'l Night 1 WESTERN BUREAU: WHEN AUGUST TOWN, Jamaica, meets the 'Dirty South' of the USA, then only one term can describe the show international. The first International Night of Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest 2004 sees the philosophy and incisive lyrics of Sizzla Kolonjie meeting the wit and fun of rapper Ludacris next week Friday in Montego Bay. When the 'dry cry' encounters Stand Up, it is certain that there are thousands who will Rise To The Occasion inside the Catherine Hall main venue. Ludacris will not be the only visitor that night, with Kanye West bringing the ROC-A-FELLA experience to Sumfest. With trips all over the world and a hot video complete with Latin lady flavour, the four part harmonies of TOK will flavour the international sound. But that is certainly not all. Richie Spice has informed us that Earth A Run Red and the world has listened; Chuck Fender is the 'Poor People's Defender' and the poor are certainly worldwide; Natty King's strident call No Guns To Town applies not only to Jamaica but to a violence ridden world; and Mackie Conscious' recent remake of Jacob Miller's classic Disciplined Child is making a mark in a big way. And what would an international night be without a female presence? Tami Chin, the lady who can certainly shake that thing, will provide just that.
