Billboard Bits: Hurricane Ivan
Kevin Lyttle and Bounty Killer have signed on to perform at the hastily organized Hurricane Ivan Relief Concert. As the massive storm churns out of the Caribbean towards the Gulf of Mexico, promoter G. City has pulled together talent for a benefit on Sunday (Sept. 19) at Newark (N.J.) Symphony Hall.
Also on the bill will be reggae and dancehall artists Spragga Benz, bez Kartel, Capleton, Chuck Fender, Richie Spice, Assassin, Macka Diamond and KC Jockey. Ticket proceeds and donated non-perishable items will aid storm victims in Grenada, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Tickets are available at the Newark Symphony Hall box office (973-643-4550 or 973-374-5360).
In a separate effort, the non-profit organization Upliftment Jamaica has launched a relief fund and is collecting cash and donations in New York and Chicago. More info can be found at the group's Web site.
According to reports, Ivan is responsible for more than 60 deaths in Jamaica, Grenada, Venezuela, Tobago, Barbados, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The storm is projected to reach the U.S. mainland sometime Wednesday, most likely hitting Louisiana and the Florida panhandle.
