Dancehall/Reggae artist Walkerton has been making his mark on the music world. He goes by several alias some of which includes: Walkerton, Walker.T, The poor people’s Spokes man, Walkerton the Reggae Don and of course The Reggae Super Star. Whichever you want to call him make sure you call him bless because that exactly what he would have you know. The Singer/Deejay said that he is blessed to be given the opportunity to speak for many who do not have a voice. He takes pride in his roots and believes strongly in equality of all mankind. Originally from Kingston Jamaica he moved to Brooklyn NY to further his education and music career. He moved to California in 2001 when he was relocated because of military duties while serving in the U.S Marines. He continued to go to school while in the Marines as well as recording his music every chance he gets.
In 2004 Walker.T collaborated with numerous U.S Rappers and R&B Singers and released several tracks on Crenshaw Ent. Mix tape “Basic Ghetto Changes”. Teaming up with young Latin producer John Paul, He released several tracks on the J. P. Productions album “The Beginning” in 2005. The album featured 13 tracks and Walkerton either wrote or was featured 10 of those songs. In the summer of 2005 Walkerton provided vocals on two songs “The Boy You Knew” and “Nothing at all” for the Rap group Strykers Club album “Unleashed”. This particular album saw heavy rotation both in the U.S and Overseas. In January 2006 Walker.T released his Maxi Single “Dance” on the Tempo Production label. Even though the CD only had 3 songs, “Bun Babylon”, “Dance”, and Shake Dat Thing”,it was well received throughout the U.S and Europe. The Single Bun Babylon and Dance were especially well recognized and received numerous radio plays. Leaving the Marines in 2006 after 8 years of service and a tour in Iraq and upon his graduation from Columbia College, the DJ has made it his mission to focus entirely on his music career with the aim to make a difference both in the Reggae music industry and in society. He believes that the more light that is shined on the struggles of the ghettos, the more people will know and more will work toward making it a better place.
Walkerton was Born Marvin Christopher Walker in 1978 in Kingston, Jamaica. He began making music at a very early age. The name Walkerton was given to him because as a youngster he would walk everywhere. Marvin would go to school and spend all his money to include his bus fare and would not have any means of getting home except to walk. He was always the last one home because everyone else took the bus home while he walked. There were times when his brothers and sisters would be on the bus and see him walking along on his way home. They started calling him Walkathon because he loved walking so much. Because his last name is Walker, he decided to change it to Walkerton to add flavor to the meaning and pronunciation. Is it ironic that his name is Walker and he loves walking and is now called Walkerton? When asked what he thought about that he said "that is just the story of my life, it is not irony but faith". Walkerton was always eager to be in the music industry as a young kid. He would always be at the local record stores trying to get a song on record. His family moved all over Kingston while he was young which caused the young Walkerton to constantly be in search for new resources in each neighborhood he moved into. Each neighborhood he moved into always had at least one other deejay. Walkerton would quickly seek out and challenge that deejay in order to make a name for his self in that neighborhood. There were times when he thought that all challenges were over until some one new came to challenge him. He always looked forward to these street challenges because he knew that he was good enough to beat any challenger and would be creating more fans for himself.
Growing up in the tough rural ghettos of Kingston Jamaica is a very hard challenge for anyone. Growing up without a father meant learning about life the hard way in the streets. His mother was sold in the local markets down town where the young Walker.T would spend most of his time on the weekends helping his mother out. He takes great pride in the lesions he learned from his mother who was his guide to everything. He honor and respected his mother and thanked her daily for bringing him into the world. He tried his best to stay off the streets but life presented itself to him in many different forms. To stay away from living the street life he joined the boy scouts where he was assigned to the Lyndhurst Scout troop. He later joined the Cadets as he entered high school. These organizations gave him the explorer edge and made him experience nature which he developed a strong appreciation for what it has to offer. Marvin only saw his father approximately 5 times throughout his life time and the last time was at age 12 when he ran into him down town. The one thing that he did take from his father was the infatuation with the military lifestyle. His father was a prison warder in the well known Spanish Town prison. Walkerton told reports that his dad let him hold his gun one day when he went to visit him in the prison and ever since then he has favored to associate himself with organizations that would allow him to experience the military or explorer atmosphere. This would come to pass later as he found himself playing an important role while serving in the U.S military. He had plans of joining the Jamaican army but was interrupted when news came that he would migrate to the U.S with his mother. He attended Norman Manley High before migrating to the United States in 1993. Arriving in the U.S. Walkerton went to live in Brooklyn, New York where he once again started to make his music. He traveled across the United States doing various shows as a means of making a name for his self and strengthening his fan base.
Walkerton figured that while he loved music and even though it means the world to him, that he needed a backup plan. He decided continue his education because until then he was the first one in his immediate family to attend college. While his friends were dropping out of school, he stuck it out because he knew that it would pay off one day. He continued his education by attending the University at Buffalo along with various other colleges. He received an Associate in Arts from Columbia College as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a Minor in Finance. After finishing school he started focusing on his music again. He was trying to make the music business work for him again since he had taken so much time off the scene. While trying to stay focus on his music he got distracted by something that would change his life forever. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1998 where he served as an infantry man to include a tour in Iraq for the initial invasion of the war in 2003. He served with the 3rd Battalion 1st Marines in Camp Pendleton California where he was assigned to Weapons Company, the Mortar Platoon (81’s). Marvin served 8 years in the Marines by which he was honorably discharged in 2006 as a Sergeant. The singer/deejay is trying to put a very rough past behind him as he tries to stay focus on doing what he loves the most and that is making music to please the fans. Most of his lyrics are written from a positive point of view. He mainly focuses on the struggles that are facing the ghettos of Jamaica and the world. He was referred to at one of his shows a while back as "Poor people spokesman". This was because most of his tunes at the time were specially made to address certain social, ethical, moral, and political issues that were affecting the less fortunate people in the world. Trying not to fall under just one category or identity, he made it his motive to make music for all different kinds of genres. Walker.T is a very talented artist and has the capabilities to embark in the Categories’ ranging from conscious vibes to the rough Dancehall.
This artist is a very positive artist and inspiring young man. At the very tender age of 16 he attended the International Theological Seminary of California where is obtained a Bachelor of Theology in 1996. He was raised a Christian man but studied religion in its entirety. He is aware of the different religions of the world and has studied many of them personally. The singer made it publicly clear that he studded these religions not as a means of believe in all of them but rather to be knowledgeable of the different societal views of the world and the different live styles that different cultures live by.
