Luciano
One of the major cultural events this weekend takes place at the House of Dread Headquarters, 3 Deanery Road, where the third annual "Coronation Celebration" will be staged tomorrow featuring a number of top reggae acts.
Included in the star-studed line-up are Luciano, Warrior King, Sugar Minott, Lutan Fyah, Bushman, Preszident Brown, Jimmy Riley, Karl Dawkins, Angie Angel, among many others. Backing bands are High Symbol and New Beat.
Warrior King
The show put on by the House of Dread Youth Foundation is in commemoration of the coronation of Haile Selassie I, one of the most significant days observed worldwide by members of the Rastafarian faith. Selassie was ascended to the throne of Ethiopia on Sunday, November 2, 1930, making this year's celebration the 75th.
In addition to the concert in Kingston the elders of the ancient Nyahbingi Order across the island will converge on Granville, St James for the national Nyahbingi rituals of chanting, drumming and reasoning.
Prior to the 8:00 pm show-time, there will be a football match in which the House of Dread Invitational Masters and a Celebrity X1 will tackle each other for the House of Dread/Masani Production Trophy.
According to Paul "Natty Pablo" McKenzie, president of the House of Dread Foundation, part proceeds from the event will go towards the assistance of the Campden Basic School.
"Since the establishment of the House of Dread Youth Foundation, it has used the medium of sports and entertainment to mobilise young adults to participate in community development projects which will be to their benefit," McKenzie said.
He said over the years the House of Dread Youth Foundation has been providing lunch at a lower cost to students from schools in the area including Franklyn Town High, Vineyard Town High, and Clan Carty Primary.
