THE Marley brothers will join top international entertainers, including Akon, Gilberto Gil and Ladysmith Black Mombazo when they perform at a concert today, the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery, to be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The 'Breaking the Silence, Beating the Drum' concert is one of several events to be held at the UN building to commemorate the more than 100 million Africans exploited during two centuries of transatlantic slave trade.
Nelson Mandela and Mohammed Ali will contribute videotaped testimonials to be screened at the concert.
The American composer Peter Buffett has written a new song called 'Blood into Gold' for the event, to be performed with Akon, which urges an end to complacency about human trafficking.
