The two policemen implicated in the shooting death of the son of popular dance hall artiste Carlton Grant popularly called Spragga Benz is to be charged with murder today.
Cartlon Grant Junior, 17, was killed on August 23 in what the police say was a shootout.
The Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) had reported that a police squad was on patrol along Church Street in central Kingston when they signalled two men on a bicycle to stop.
The CCN said the men obeyed but one pulled a gun and fired at the police, who returned fire.
After the incident, Grant was found shot and a gun was allegedly found on him.
He later died in hospital.
However, residents refuted the claims of the police saying Grant was killed in cold blood.
A 17 year old boy claiming to be a witness to the controversial police killing posted a video on the Internet giving his account of the incident in which he said Grant was murdered.
Following investigation by the Bureau of Special Investigation, the Director of Public Prosecution ruled that the policemen be charged for the murder.
In the meantime, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) said it is pleased with the decision taken by the DPP to prosecute the policemen.
It said it is also pleased with the speed and efficiency of the investigations as well as the prompt ruling by the DPP.
