The WorldBeat Cultural Center Presents Midnite Lion of Judah Birthday Bash 100% Roots Reggae from St. Croix
The Lion was the symbol of the Tribe of Judah the dominant tribe among the ancient Israelites. In Christianity Jesus portrayed as the Lion of Judah. Haile Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia, whose influence as an African leader far surpassed the confines of his country. He was a direct descendent of the Tribe of Judah through the lineage of King David and Solomon. As the returned Messiah he was therefore titled Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah as well as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Dreadlocks in the Rastafari culture, among other things, have also come to symbolize the mane of the Lion of Judah.
Midnight-Hailing from the Island of St Croix, Midnite is one of the most promising roots reggae bands of the millennium. They are vanguards of conscious reggae that represent the King and Queen's music to the fullness of Jah. Formed in the late 80's, Midnite returned to STX in late 1999, after having spent some years in Washington D.C. Lead singer/song writer Vaughn Benjamin and his brother Ron (keyboardist/musical director) use roots music and enrich it with modern influences to create an original sound of their own, setting a bold new standard for modern reggae. Midnite's profound and innovative lyrics are sincere and deeply rooted to present the other half of the story.
