The Marley legacy continues as Ky-Mani Marley prepares for his tribute performance (to his father Bob Marley) at the upcoming Montreal Reggae Festival
Montreal, QC (June 25, 2006) Reggae artist Ky-Mani Marley, will be in Montreal this June 26th-29th to promote the Montreal Reggae Festival (July 14th-16th , 2006) which will include his special tribute performance to his father, Bob Marley. As part of our celebration of the 25th anniversary of Bob Marleys legacy, Ky-Manis performance will be the highlight among a weekend of tributes to reggaes favorite artist.
About Ky-Mani Marley
The only child of table tennis champion Anita Belnavis and reggae icon Bob Marley, Ky-mani Marley was born in Falmouth, Jamaica. As a youth, Ky-Mani's first love was sports and he was quite unaware of his musical abilities. However, with his mothers direction, he took piano and guitar lessons and played trumpet in his high school band. Soon enough Ky-Mani reluctantly decided to enter the music industry - laying tracks, experimenting and creating, at times with his brothers Stephen, Julian and Damian.
Later on Ky-Mani signed with Shang Records where he recorded several singles, the first being Judge Not with Patra, followed by Dear Dad and Sensimelia, all of which added to his growing reputation as a master in the new generation of reggae musicians. His collaboration with Pras, from the Fugees, on the cover of Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue" brought him to the national spotlight. His debut album, "The Journey" hit the streets in 1999 to much anticipation and critical acclaim. In addition to "Dear Dad" it also featured "Country Journey" recorded with Morgan Heritage.
After touring the World in support of "The Journey" and often joining his brothers Damian, Stephen and Ziggy on stage he released his sophomore CD, "Many Roads". Not only has Ky-Mani made a name for himself as a singer, he starred with dancehall deejay Spragga Benz, and Jamaican actor Paul Campbell in the movie "Shottas" which told the story of two young gangsters in Miami. Ky-Mani also landed the lead role in "One Love", a modern Romeo and Juliet story.
While in town promoting the upcoming Montreal Reggae Festival, singer Ky-Mani Marley will help the Festival launch its official merchandise store, DEmage Boutique.
DEmage Boutique will be the year-round exclusive retail outlet for all official merchandise for the Montreal International Reggae Festival including DVDs and clothing.
DEmage Boutique is a partnership between the increasingly popular Montreal International Reggae Festival and Montreal fashion company DEmage, who have achieved great success due to their ownership and operation of their own screen printing facilities. Not only will the boutique exclusively carry Reggae Festival merchandise but will carry a growing list of fashions including printed t-shirts, hoodies, caps, and bags in the DEmage line all with the ultimate goal of promoting reggae culture in Montreal.
States Cezar Brumeanu, Executive Producer of the Montreal Reggae Festival, Were so excited about this opportunity to promote reggae in the city. The timing couldnt be better with Ky-Mani here promoting the festival! We hope that DEmage Boutique will be a one-stop-reggae-shop where people can come to feel reggae vibes year-round and not only during Festival time.
Maxwell, owner of DEmage agrees, We want it to be to the point where when people think of reggae in Montreal, they think of DEmage Boutique as the reggae spot.
