Video Review - Ghetto Story Kyle Campbell, Observer TEENage writer Tuesday, January 31, 2006 By: Baby Cham
Calabar old boy, the "ghetto yute" himself, Baby Cham, has a new video out that depicts his life and what he had to go through when he was young to his life now.
And the story line in this video is good! It's raw and down-to-earth and it didn't shy away from suggesting all the themes of life that Jamaica's inner-city youths have to face. The video also showed the hunger for a better life from a poor person's point of view and the joy of finally getting out.
With a plot line like that there was no need for dancing or an elaborate wardrobe. But come on, they could've done much more with Baby Cham's appearance. He looked slightly out of place and it was kind of obvious he didn't belong anymore. I like the track and the whole rhythm but the whole video felt like it was missing some big factor to help it better express Baby Cham's life. It was a good try, but it still came off a bit weak.
Ratings: 3 out of 5 stars

Cham Tells Ghetto Story All Over the US Chams Ghetto Story Part 2 music video featuring Alicia Keys is the number one video in rotation on BET this week, racking up 20 spins, and earning pole position on 106 & Park: Top Ten Live. The video was shot on location in Chams inner city Sherlock community and Keys old neighborhood in New York by famed director Sanaa Hamri. Building on the success of the single from his Atlantic Records debut album released on August 15, he has a busy week ahead. Cham is scheduled to appear on the taping of BETs The Center and Rap City next week. He will also appear on two radio shows, and from there, he heads to Japan to do a promotional tour. On his State side return, the deejay will be opening for select dates on Kelis tour in the United States between September and October along the West Coast. In addition to all his performances, Cham is still a featured artistes on the Discover and Download programme on MTV networks. Chams album was released in August of this year to rave reviews from music critics. The Ghetto Story song was the lead-off hitter on his album. There is also a Ghetto Story Part 3 featuring Akon. Other songs on the album include high profile collaborations with US heavy hitters such as 'Boom Boom' with Rihanna, 'Bad Boys' with Thea, and 'Bring it On' with Magic. The second single off the album for his dancehall fan base will be 'Rude Boy Pledge', a hard hitting song that decries people who 'get rich and switch' from their roots. Known for such seminal dancehall hits as 'Joyride', 'Many Many', 'Que Serra' and 'Gallang Yah Gal', Cham graduated to star status in Jamaica after a smash hit, 'Another Level' with former stablemate deejay Bounty Killer. Prior to the release of his Ghetto Story album, Cham was popping up all over; he scored a Fader magazine cover, Vibe magazine feature, appearances on MTVs Direct Effects and performed with Alicia Keys in New York. Cham re-launched his website to give fans an opportunity to interact with him on a more personal level. Visit www.cham-music.com/ for news, tour dates, ring tones and hot previously unreleased pictures of Cham.
